Fashion Fab Time!

I made a trip to Charming Charlie on one of my recent trips to Atlanta Georgia. While I loved most of the store items, I was in search of a specific item; an appropriate clutch for formal wear. Suddenly, I saw the clutch featured in the photo below and fell in love with it. It has the glam factor that I was looking for while still fitting a decent amount of belongings and having a chain strap option. It seems to be decently durable but because of the intricate detailing, I would only recommend this clutch for special nights out. For those of you interested in a formal clutch, I definitely recommend searching at Charming Charlie. The featured clutch is apart of their RSVP line. It is called the “Ready to Mingle Clutch” and costs $39.00. You can find it at http://www.charmingcharlie.com/rsvp/rsvp-evening-bags.html if you do not have a store near you.

Hello everyone!

Here is the long awaited written review on my July 2015 Try The World subscription box. If you watched the video then you already know about one item in my box being broken (the Malbec Wine Marinade). Try The World did get ahold of me and they are sending me a new box, plus they gave me a $10.00 gift card, which I promptly spent on some more of those “Koo! Cookies”. A big thank you to Try The World for having GREAT customer service! I appreciate it.

Product Review:

Item 1: KOO! Cookies: Delicious!!! I loved these cookies. They have a lite salty flavor at first and then the flavor transitions to sweet. Exactly as they advertise, they are the perfect combo of sweet and salty. They also have a delectable texture and are a shortbread type cookie. I enjoyed these so much that I ordered more.

Item 2: DOÑA MAGDALENA, dulce de leche: This was a fantastic caramel. It was thick, creamy and rich. A little goes a long way so this container will last me a while. I enjoyed this caramel on top of ice cream but I’m anxious to try it on one of my homemade vanilla-caramel cakes. I will be re-purchasing this product soon.

Item 3: MQA GOURMET: This Green Olive paste was delicious on crackers with a dab of goat cheese. I love olives and I love goat cheese so I knew the moment I saw this paste that I had to pair them together. The olive paste is pretty thick so once again, a little goes a long way. Also, it’s very flavorful because it literally contains fresh ground whole olives. Thus, a delicate amount per serving is ample.

Item 4: CHAMANA AND INTI ZEN, Argentina Tea: There were three teas included in the box; Inca Rose, Patagonia Bee, and Chamana Matēe. The Inca Rose was very floral in flavor. I’m not a huge fan of floral teas but I gave the remainder of my cup to my mother who loves floral teas and she rated this an 8 on her 1-10 scale for tea quality. The Patagonia Bee was soothing, tasty, and aromatic. It had a vanilla, chocolate, honey combo flavor which I enjoyed. It was almost like drinking a dessert but without all the calories! Finally, I tried the Chamana Matēe, which is a “yerba matē” (the national drink of Argentina). I have had Matē on a number of occasions. Thus, this tea was not new for me. However, I do love yerba matē, therefore I was excited to try this brand. The Chamana Matēe included in my box was a Green yerba matē, which is the beverage of choice in South America due to its well-balance flavor and health benefits. There was a hint of the cold pressed bergamot oil, which was complemented by the ‘full’ texture of Matée, creating a unique ‘Latin’ Earl Grey.

Item 5: VANOLI, Chimichurri: I’m use to making my own Chimichurri (homemade and fresh). Thus, I was not sure how I would like this bottled version of Chimichurri. It is a bit vinegary (probably because of preservation). It was not bad but I am partial to fresh Chimichurri.

Item 6: DULCOR, dulce de membrillo: This fruit spread is incredible. It has been around since the Spanish Occupation and is found in bolas de fraile (spherical pastries with a bit of vanilla and lemon) and is typical in fruit-filled pies. It has a thick texture and a very fruity flavor. I sampled it on toast and loved it. I have plenty leftover and I’m thinking of making my own homemade bolas de fraile with it.

Item 7: MEMORIES OF PATAGONIA, Malbec Wine Marinade: The glass jar that this marinade came in was broken. However, as mentioned in the opening paragraph, Try The World is sending me a new box so I should be able to sample this soon. I will add a review on this product in the comment section below once I have sampled it.

Overall, I loved all 15 NYX products that I purchased. NYX provides good quality products for a very reasonable price. They are my new/ currant favorite for cosmetics. See Aurora Glam’s YouTube video on this NYX Haul for swatches and comments. Below is a short review on each product based on my usage experiences.

1. Jumbo Eye Pencil -Milk- $2.25: I enjoy using this eye pencil as a base under my eyeshadow. It blends out well over my primer and makes the shadow color ‘pop’.

2. Matte Lipstick -Aria- $5.99: This is a pretty matte product. I love the color and it lasts all day with very mild touch-ups after meals.

3. Matte Lipstick -Siren- $5.99: (Same as above) This is a pretty matte product. I love the color and it lasts all day with very mild touch-ups after meals.

4. Matte Lipstick -Natural -$5.99: (same as above) This is a pretty matte product. I love the color and it lasts all day with very mild touch-ups after meals.

5. Slim Lip Pencil -Prune- $3.49: Fairly easy application, good pigmentation, and matches well with the NYX lipsticks.

6. Slim Lip Pencil -Plum- $3.49: (same as above) Fairly easy application, good pigmentation, matches well with the NYX lipsticks.

7. Wicked Lippies -Stone Cold- $5.99: I love this color. More touch-ups are obviously needed with this lipstick than the NYX Matte series. However, the touch-ups are worth it to have such a stunning color!

8. Wicked Lippies -Power- $5.99: (same as above) I love this color. More touch-ups are obviously needed with this lipstick than the NYX Matte series. However, the touch-ups are worth it to have such a stunning color!

9. HD Finishing Powder -Translucent- $9.99: Easy application, matte finish, and it has a long wear time.

10. Lip Primer -Nude- $6.99: Looks like it should be pigmented but it has no pigmentation. However, it helps lengthen the wear time on your lipstick and prevents the lipstick from bleeding.

11. NYX Wonder Stick- $11.99: Highlighter on one side, Contour on the other side. Easy application, easy to blend out, and it is a great match for a light olive skin tone.

12. Eyebrow Shaper -Clear- $8.99: Goes on clear, easy application, and it lasts 75% of the day.

13. All Over Balm -Argan Oil- $1.69: Not greasy, very moisturizing, and it helps dry skin heal fast.

14. Color Correcting Concealer – $11.99: Plenty of color options for you concealing needs, easy application, good coverage, and lasts all day.

15. Radiant Finishing Powder – $8.99: Easy application, radiant finish, and a long wear time. Perfect for Summer.

Item 1: “MONGONGO” is a nutrient dense lip conditioner, produced by Jersey Shore Sun. It is very conditioning and has organic ingredients. I feel that it does work but I’m not a huge fan of coconut flavors and this Vanilla Coconut lip conditioner, has a prominent coconut scent and flavor. Thus, I like the “Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm” that I got in my Beauty Box 5 this month better than this Ipsy provided lip balm. Retail Price: $1.79. Rating: 3/5

IMG_1892

Item 2: “BARE Republic” is a SPF 30 Natural Mineral Sunscreen. It has a slight tint to it that matches my skin tone perfectly (Ipsy has you fill out a preference profile so that they can match products better). “BARE Republic” is up there on my list for favorite facial sunscreens because it does not feel greasy and it wears well. Retail Price: $14.99 for 1.7 oz (a small sample bottle is what Ipsy provided). Rating: 4/5

IMG_1893

Item 3: “OFRA” eyeshadow & highlighter was provided in the color “Bliss”. It has a bronze shimmering pigment and it lasts all day. I love, love, love this eyeshadow! Retail Price: $15.00 for a full size shadow (Sample size was provided). Rating: 5/5

IMG_1895

Item 4: A double-ended (shadow/crease) “Crown Brush” was in this months bag. A perfect addition considering that I got eyeshadow. The brush heads are not stiff but also not soft, they are a happy medium. I actually prefer a medium coarseness when it comes to my eyeshadow brushes, I find it easier to saturate the color on the bristles and apply a thick enough layer. Retail Price: $6.99 (actual $6.99 size brush provided). Rating: 4/5

IMG_1896

Item 5: A tube of “Read My Lips Lipstick” by teeez cosmetics was the final item in my bag. I received the color “Killing Me Softly” which looks like a coral color on the lips. When I swatched it on my arm, I felt like it was more pink but once I wore it on my lips, it looked coral. It definitely had a matte finish, it was a very pretty shade of coral, and it lasted most of the day. However, “Read My Lips Lipstick” left my lips feeling overly stiff. I’m a matte lipstick lover so I’m use to a slightly dry finish but this lipstick was a bit over the top. Retail Price: $22.00 for full size tube (nearly full size tube was provided). Rating: 2/5

Item 1: “Sally Hanson Salon effects French Mani” involves some getting use to with the application process. However, if applied properly, this French Mani will last 3-5 days with regular water/soap usage. The retail price for this item is around $9.99. The overall Mystery Box costs $10.00. Thus, you are already returning your investment in this one item and the rest of the items are like a bonus. Rating: 3/5

IMG_1874

Item 2: “Lasting Smiles Organic Lip Balm” is very moisturizing while feeling light on your lips rather than greasy. The flavor is citrusy with a passion fruit/mango scent. All ingredients are organic or fair trade and a portion of your purchase helps with cleft lip and palate surgeries. The retail price is around $4.99. Rating: 5/5

IMG_1873

Item 3: “Dancin Goat” hand/body lotion is extremely moisturizing. It has an aromatherapy fragrance which leaves you feeling relaxed. The retail cost for a full size bottle (8 oz.) is $17.99. A 2oz. bottle is provided but I could not find a retail price for that size. Rating: 4/5

IMG_1872

Item 4: A small sample of “Marsk Mineral Eye Shadow” was also included. The color provided was Vanilla Frosting and has a good pigmentation for a light shadow. It has a moderate wear time but it is not an ‘all day’ eye shadow. It will wear off eventually. Also, I enjoy a little glitter in my eye shadows (not to much glitter but a little can look cute), and this shadow does provide that right balance of pigment and sparkle. The retail price for a full size 1.2g shadow is $22.50 (a small version was included in the Mystery box but I could not find a retail price for that size). Rating: 4/5

IMG_1877IMG_1886

Item 5: “Extend Your Beauty Cosmetic Tool” actually works!!! I used it on a nearly empty lotion bottle and it got into all the small corners, providing an additional use of product. Also, the rubber tip makes it very easy to clean this tool after use. The retail price is $4.99. Rating 5/5
